Why employ an apprentice?

At STE 1300apprentice we take all the hassle and risk out of employing an apprentice or trainee because we employ them on your behalf. It’s risk-free and leaves you to continue growing your business.

We handle the entire process including:

  • the recruitment process
  • administration and government requirements
  • worker’s compensation
  • OH&S requirements and personal protective equipment
  • TAFE and RTO training
  • performance monitoring sessions and mentoring.

Don't just take it from us - Les Mouat, Operations Manager at Boral Window Systems Ltd in Queanbeyan, when asked about our service level, replied, “the current service is reliable and timely. CSC is always willing and able to fulfil our business needs.”

Slip Slop Slap

The bad news: Every year more than 10,000 Australians are treated for melanoma and 1250 of these people die. Outdoor workers have a higher chance of being one of these statistics.

The good news: Skin cancer is preventable, you just need to get into the habit of protecting yourself.
Follow the guidelines set out by the Cancer Council Australia which include:

  • Slip on sun-protective clothing – that covers as much skin as possible.
  • Slop on broad spectrum, water resistant SPF30+ sunscreen. Put it on 20 minutes before you go outdoors and every two hours afterwards. Sunscreen should never be used to extend the time you spend in the sun.
  • Slap on a hat -that protects your face, head, neck and ears
  • Seek shade - find ways to reduce the time spent in the sun.
  • Slide on sunglasses– make sure they meet Australian Standards  (SOURCE: Cancer Council Australia)

Contact our OH&S expert, Darren Gibson, for more information or to replenish your stock of sunscreen.

Employer duty of care
Employers must provide and maintain safe working environments which include protection from exposure to UV radiation. (Source: State Occupational Health and Safety Act).

More information about sun smart workplaces is available in the Cancer Council's fact sheet.  > Link

STE1300apprentice views this as a very important issue and we have decided to support the Melanoma Foundation of Australia this year by nominating the foundation to receive a percentage of the cost through our chosen christmas card design. Click here for more information.

Hot Tips: The look, for a successful interview

We've had some fun creating a poster to guide you to get "The Look" for a successful interview.

We are not pretending to be fashion experts but we are experts in helping people get jobs. So click here to download your poster. Why? Because our experience (working with the host employees and interviewers) says that this is the look that is going to improve your chances of winning that job.

Trade Spotlight: Air Conditioner/ Refrigeration Mechanic

Air Conditioning / Refrigeration mechanics work on a variety of tasks including cutting, bending and threading pipe, attaching piping to systems, filling with gas or fluids and testing for leaks.

Martin De La Mare one of our 2nd year apprentices in this field says, "this industry is versatile with many different skills to learn and constant new challenges.” Martin works specifically on supermarket and commercial refrigeration, installation and maintenance of bar and beer systems in pubs and clubs.

“I really enjoy the mechanical aspect of this trade and I love the
fact that this is a trade with a growing future and many options.”
said Martin.

One of those options which many are not aware of, is that, once you become trade qualified in this industry you may consider further study to become dual qualified as an electrician. This is possible as some of the TAFE studies overlap with the Electrotechnology electrician qualification.

Martin is currently hosted with Alliance Refrigeration Pty Ltd and says “Alliance is a great company to work for. I can see my future here and the people are great to work with.”

Gary Wright of Alliance Refrigeration Pty Ltd said “We are a young company continuing to grow and we see young people as the
source of our continuing success as they develop into qualified tradesmen. We are passionate about helping young people in this trade and our strong relationship with STE 1300apprentice allows
us to achieve this.”
